QR ordering for catering and leisure: what does it really provide for peace of mind?

QR ordering is not just a restaurant solution. Every location where an order belongs to a table, court, terrace, room or zone can give guests a direct ordering route. This is relevant for the catering industry and for leisure locations such as play parks, bowling alleys, golf clubs and amusement parks.

Guests order via QR in a multi-activity leisure location

The problem is often the same: the ordering moment is not seen

An employee cannot be in every place at the same time. If several tables want to order at the same time, a remote table may be served later than intended. The QR code gives each guest an additional route: order themselves when he or she is ready, while personal service remains available.

  • The table or zone automatically comes with the order
  • Follow-up orders do not have to wait for the next round
  • Employees leave room for advice, serving and exceptions

Staff shortages make recurring ordering work extra visible

CBS reported in May 2025 that two-thirds of Dutch entrepreneurs experienced staff shortages. Within culture, sport and recreation the figure was 55%. Of the catering entrepreneurs, 13.8% mentioned further automation as a measure against labor shortages; within culture, sport and recreation this was 17.7%. These figures do not prove that QR ordering solves a staff shortage. They show why entrepreneurs are looking for ways to organize recurring work in a smarter way. WorkTable supports the team and is not a substitute for hospitality.

The leisure USP: order without leaving the seat

At an indoor playground, ball pit or family terrace, supervisors often consciously choose a seat with a view of the play area. A study of public play areas described that seated counselors used areas with visual accessibility and unobstructed sight lines. That research does not say that ordering via a telephone makes supervision safer. The practical translation is smaller and fairer: if a parent does not have to walk to the bar for food or drinks, they stay at their chosen seat.

Which locations does it work for?

WorkTable is suitable when an order can be linked to a fixed location. Think of restaurant tables, shisha lounges, bowling alleys, golf club terraces, play parks, amusement parks, hotel rooms and catering areas. For visitors walking around without a fixed delivery location, a regular collection counter is often clearer.

Start small and make the operation reliable first

Start on one to three tables or zones. Check whether the menu is clear, who confirms new orders and how an order goes to the kitchen or cash register. New WorkTable accounts can order immediately, but payment at the table will not be possible until the setup per company has been activated.

  • Choose places where guests are now noticeably waiting
  • Make ownership for new orders clear
  • Measure questions, waiting time and reorders
  • Only scale up when the route is right for the team
